VENTTK Adiabatic Dry Coolers for Water-Saving Heat Rejection

Nov 02, 2026

When Adiabatic Cooling Makes Sense

Adiabatic cooling is a technical and economic fit in hot, dry climates — especially where water is scarce and expensive. It also suits locations where ambient temperatures are cool enough for most of the year that dry coolers or condensers run efficiently. The data center industry has used adiabatic pre-cooling on air handlers for years; as new designs reach fluid coolers and refrigerant condensers, and as water scarcity grows, the technology is spreading across more industries. VENTTK designs and manufactures adiabatic coolers to help operators select the right solution for their duty.

Dry Operation Most of the Year, Adiabatic Boost at Peak Heat

During cooler months and normal operating conditions, an adiabatic cooler works exactly like a dry cooler. A spray or humidification pre-cooling stage engages only during the hottest periods. Water is introduced into the air stream before it crosses the coil; as it evaporates, the air is cooled, increasing the coil's heat rejection effect and allowing the unit to bring the circulating medium — typically water/glycol — to within 5°C of wet bulb temperature. The spray water is taken directly from the mains supply and used once, with no recirculation loop — eliminating stagnant water and the water quality management required by cooling towers.

The Adiabatic Dry Cooler Version

An adiabatic dry cooler adds an adiabatic pre-cooler: before the fan draws ambient air through the coil, the air passes through a humidification pad, where water evaporates and boosts cooling capacity.

Performance and Efficiency Benefits

1. Low process temperatures even at peak ambient heat

2. Over 80% annual water savings compared with cooling towers

3. Up to 40% higher capacity versus dry cooling alone as air approaches wet bulb temperature

4. Reduced energy consumption through efficient geometry

5. Operational safety — no water recirculation, no stagnant water, no aerosol generation, no water carry-over

6. Compact footprint — adiabatic efficiency allows a smaller unit than a pure dry cooler where space is at a premium

Performance and Customization

Performance spans 69 to 3212 kW, with modular fan layout supporting 1 to 28 fans per unit. Coil piping is available in copper or AISI 304/316L stainless steel, fin packs in a wide range of materials, and casings in stainless steel or aluminum with epoxy coated aluminum or copper fins. Coils accommodate water, oil, glycol, BC888 and Shell S3X/S5X fluids, with multiple circuits, sub-cooling circuits, explosion proof motors, customized fin spacing and the adiabatic spray system itself as options.
